Tony’s off today. We left the house half nine to check out the hiking scene in Saikun Country Park we’ve always talked about.
It’s an hour drive from Repulse Bay. We want to challenge MacLehose Trail which runs from east to west on New Territories (a vast area of Northern Kowloon and the rest of Hong Kong excluding the HK Island). The trail is also known for the annual 100km OXFAM trail walk.
We started off at the second stage of the trail and our goal was to get to the beautiful beach called, Tai Long Wan = Big Wave Beach. Well, did we make it?...Let me tell you the story.
Public car access is limited from the first stage, so we hop in a cab to the stage two. It's quite a scenic drive, running half way around High Island Reservoir.
Viewing the reservoirs on the left, confirm M019 post sign and walk towards Long Ke.

After 10 minutes hike up the first hill, you will see an emerald green Long Ke beach.
Beautiful sea! I just want to jump off and dive in from here. BUT, Tai Long Wan is another hump away. Time is just before 11am. It's 34 degrees celsius. There is no shade and the merciless sun glares down on us.
I put my hut on.
Fighting down the desire to swim in the sea, we walk pass Long Ke Beach and walk on to climb 300-meter Sai Wan Shan hill.
Margaux can't stand the heat anymore. She finds a water stream and jumps in.
This uphill was tough! We were all running out of breath when we reached to the viewpoint at the top. Tora is relieved to find the shade.
It just hit noon. I and Tony share our thoughts.
'What do you think? We need to be back home by 4, and even if we made it to the beach, we would have to hurry back the way we came in this heat.'
'But the beach is right in front of us..'
'Ok, let's do that : ('
So, that was it, we turned ourselves 180 degrees around and set our final destination to Long Ke Beach.
Beeeeach!
Return way. Dogs are fried.
We'll be back, Tai Long Wan.
